When I looked down from the open hood, releasing the belt tensioner looked impossible.\u00a0 The trick is to remove the Accessory Drive Belt Shield, which is behind the right front wheel.\u00a0 I removed the right front tire first to give me more space, but I think it can be done if you just turn the steering all the way to the right.<\/p>\n<p>The Accessory Drive Belt Shield is held in place by four fasteners.\u00a0 One of them is a bolt and the other three are spring-loaded fasteners that just pop off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3696.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-265\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3696.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3696.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3696-300x225.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of the right-front wheel well once I lowered the shield (at the bottom of the picture).\u00a0 The belt is very accessible with the tensioner partially visible at the top.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3697.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-264\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3697.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3697.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3697-300x225.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tensioner is released with a 19mm wrench on the belt tensioner lug.\u00a0 My adjustable wrench was conveniently held by the A\/C pulley while I removed the old belt and installed the new one.<\/p>\n<p>A Dodge Caravan is equivalent to a Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Town &amp; Country.\u00a0 Engines from 2001 on have a serpentine belt. The same procedure should apply to the 3.8L engine.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>2001 Dodge Grand Caravan\u00a0<a name=\"Starter_Replacement\"><\/a>Starter Replacement<small>\u00a0(3.3 Liter Engine)<\/small><\/p>\n<p>At 150,000 miles, it was time to replace the starter.\u00a0 It was relatively simple once I found the location of the two bolts that hold it in place.\u00a0 The bolts are in the transmission bell housing (driver\u2019s side) and thread back into the starter motor.\u00a0 The lower bolt requires a 15mm socket and is easy to access from below the car.\u00a0 It\u2019s close to the transmission oil pan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3390.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-267\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3390.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3390.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3390-300x221.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"471\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The upper bolt is a bolt\/stud which mounts the engine ground straps:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3383.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-269\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3383.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3383.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3383-300x62.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s accessed from the top of the engine with socket\/extension from the right of the upper radiator hose.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3397.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-270\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3397.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3397.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3397-300x201.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Start by removing the 13mm nut which holds the ground straps.\u00a0 Next you\u2019ll need a\u00a0deep\u00a015mm socket to remove the bolt.<\/p>\n<p>Removing the wires from the starter is obvious.\u00a0 But, it helps to have an assistant (or long cable tie) pull the wiring harness up while you remove the old starter and insert the new one.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of the new starter in place \u2014 before the wires have been connected.\u00a0 The radiator is at the top of the picture and the oil filter is on the left.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3393.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-268\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3393.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3393.jpg 640x, http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/IMG_3393-300x168.jpg 300x\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<pre><small><i>Updated: January\u00a02017<\/i><\/small>\n<small><i>Contact: GerdHoeren at Gmail dot com<\/i><\/small><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2001 Dodge Grand Caravan\u00a0Serpentine Belt Replacement\u00a0(3.3 Liter Engine) I wanted to replace the serpentine belt on my 3.3L engine as part of the 75K maintenance.
