{"id":334,"date":"2017-01-27T05:18:37","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T05:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/?page_id=334"},"modified":"2019-09-17T08:36:07","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T16:36:07","slug":"rear-view-mirror","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/WordPress\/mercedes-slk-230\/rear-view-mirror\/","title":{"rendered":"Rear View Mirror"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><big><big>2002 Mercedes SLK 230<\/big><\/big><br \/>\n(R170 Chassis)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>After 10 years, my inside rear view mirror started looking like a lava lamp.\u00a0 This happened just after I cleaned it with glass cleaner.\u00a0 I bought a new mirror at our local\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.importautopartsbeaverton.com\/\">Discount Import Parts<\/a>.\u00a0 Here are the steps I used to replace it.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Start by removing the dome light cover with a small flat screw driver:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Dome Light Cover Removal\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5449.jpg\" alt=\"Dome Light Cover Removal\" width=\"640\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Remove the two Philips screws:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windshield finisher cover removal\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5453.jpg\" alt=\"Windshield finisher cover removal\" width=\"640\" height=\"435\" \/><br \/>\n<b><big><big><br \/>\n<\/big><\/big><\/b>Remove four Philips screws that hold the two visors<b>:<\/b><b><big><big><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Remove the Visor\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5455.jpg\" alt=\"Remove the Visor\" width=\"640\" height=\"474\" \/><br \/>\n<\/big><\/big><\/b><br \/>\nThe windshield finish cover is now loose.\u00a0 Gently pull it up and toward the back of the car.\u00a0 Notice the brass clips on the top and sides.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windshield finish cover removal\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5456.jpg\" alt=\"Windshield finish cover removal\" width=\"640\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Disconnect the wiring from the mirror using a small screwdriver:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Rear view mirror wiring connection\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5460.jpg\" alt=\"Rear view mirror wiring connection\" width=\"640\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mirror can now be removed by inserting a small screwdriver into the access hole at the bottom.\u00a0 Use the screwdriver to rotate the mirror 90 degrees.\u00a0 Here is a picture once the mirror has been removed.\u00a0 Notice that I&#8217;m using the screw at the center to pry against:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Rear view mirror removal\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5472.jpg\" alt=\"Rear view mirror removal\" width=\"640\" height=\"500\" \/><br \/>\nMirror installation is the opposite.\u00a0 It took me several tries to get both clips to attach because I wasn&#8217;t holding the mirror base flat against the windshield.<\/p>\n<p>Reinstall the windshield finish cover by sliding it in from the back of the car.\u00a0 Make sure the top brass guides slide into their receptacles:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windshiled cover installation\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5469.jpg\" alt=\"Windshiled cover installation\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the process, one of the side clips came off.\u00a0 It was no problem to glue it back on with some epoxy:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windshield cover side clip\" src=\"http:\/\/gerdhoeren.me\/Discoveries\/IMG_5471.jpg\" alt=\"Windshield cover side clip\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At this point, check that all the rubber seals correctly surround the windshield cover.\u00a0 Then, replace the screws in the dome light and the visors.<\/p>\n<pre><small><i>Updated: January\u00a02017<\/i><\/small>\n<small><i>Contact: GerdHoeren at Gmail dot com<\/i><\/small><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2002 Mercedes SLK 230 (R170 Chassis) After 10 years, my inside rear view mirror started looking like a lava lamp.\u00a0 This happened just after I cleaned it with glass cleaner.\u00a0 I bought a new mirror at our local\u00a0Discount Import Parts.\u00a0 Here are the steps I used to replace it.
